Andrew and I have been home together for over 9 mo

Andrew and I have been home together for over 9 months, and while it's been great on some level, it's also been incredibly difficult and frustrating. Adding 3 kids, and facilitating the education for all 3 of them, while trying to work and grow this, is mentally exhausting.

It's hard to not punch Andrew in his sleep for snoring all night, not lose my cool while finding the brain space to do laundry, tidy up, dishes, keep up with school schedules & mental health needs, who has toilet paper, who is struggling, who is not. I fail quite often at most of these things, but these people give me grace upon grace when it happens.

It takes all 5 of us to make this blog, business, home decor DIY train, whatever we call it, happen. There is no way I could do these things without the support of these people. We took them 🏕 camping to get back to our roots, recharge, center ourselves, and celebrate our 11th anniversary. It was perfect timing this year to fill up on sunshine, fresh air, grass on feet, campfires, and real quality time. We are exhausted from this post-surgery meets Coronacation lifestyle, but we have fed our souls and can keep rolling along. The next fuel station on route is the beach (shh, my first true love). If you're struggling with all the things lately, give yourself grace, turn off the news, and go outside. Find sunshine, fresh or salty air, big skies, mountains, sand, sea, lake, trails, campfires, trees, and stars and I guarantee... it will be well.

Encouragement. Boom! A post I wrote in a parent group for my school, appliesnto all of us.
I just wanted to hop in here and say that it is Friday, and week 1 is almost complete! You guys are all doing such a wonderful job at being thrown into schooling kids at home, teaching from home, administrating from home, working from home, ______ from home. If you're struggling, you're not alone. If you're killin' it, you may be🤣. Just kidding!

Some of us are struggling, and that's OK.
Some of us are doing wonderful, and that's OK.
Some of us are a mix, and that's OK.

All that matters is doing the best we can, being grateful for what we have, and pushing through to another day. Enjoy the weather today, enjoy the coffee, tea, and/or wine, white claws, beers, and just know we are all together, from a socially acceptable distance apart.

This is the story of my life. There has to be some universal rule that says when 2/3rds of your kids are sick, half your house explodes. One with the flu, the other with what I was sure was the flu but isn't, and the other is bored and not sick. So when you spend the day Theivesing your entire household, dipping it in bleach, splashing it with vinegar, wiping every surface down, and get lost opening all the windows for hours in the dead of winter for the last 3 days, there must be a room or two that go to destruction. *EDITED TO ADD: Andrew just called me in bed, twice, on the phone from the couch where he has been sleeping since 12/30 in his post-surgery recovery zone, to request I add that he had surgery and is in a sling, and, he may or may not have the man flu. He does not have the man flu. At least I'm in a snore-free zone. 🤣🤣🤣 For us, it's the entry and playroom/office. It was in shambles while I cleaned the rest of the whole house, and laid around this weekend holding ponytails, and I don't even care. It's so quiet. My coffee is so hot. I'm so stoked.

It's so quiet. My coffee is so hot. I'm so stoked. After this cup, I'm going to have like 2 more, then have breakfast, then evaluate my Christmas Eve. I know there are cookies to make, beans to snap, brussels sprouts to cut, and soup to make. Kids to bathe. Laundry to finish & put away, counters to clear, bathrooms (not baseboards) to clean, and literally still all the gifts to wrap.

I have no panic, there is no stress. I feel like I should be feeling a sense of urgency and stress, but I'm definitely not. Maybe I'm procrastinating, as is my nature 🤣, but I know it will all get done, one way or another, whether I stress out or not. So i'm just... not. Are you remembering to keep it chill today, or are you losin' it? Are you running ragged, or staying still? Wrapping today? Tell me I'm not the only one locking myself in a garage with wine & tape🤐🤣 Truly, there is only urgency to drink coffee (I mean, it IS only 6am), by my warm and cozy faux fireplace. With Fat Santa and 3 sweet guinea pigs looking at me.

Friends, if your holiday is stressful to the point of not enjoying it, take a step back. Enjoy the time you have, and the tasks you're doing, and who you're doing them for. Even laundry (pepping myself.) Don't be afraid to cut the unimportant stuff off the list in favor of something important. Don't be afraid to pare down items, expectations, tasks, and all things that create stress and negativity. Some things you can't pare down. Take time to pare down other things to clear that mental space for those things.

Christmas will come and go, whether you're present for it is up to you.

If thinking about 'all you have to do this season' brings you or your family stress, worry, debt, anxiety, depression... stop. What are you doing? What are we proving, and who are we proving it to? How many events and commitments can we cram into a holiday season and show up to with full and joyful hearts? If thinking about your purposefully jam packed schedule brings you & your family contentment, go on and make your soul merry!! But if you find yourself thrown into an out of control, overflowing holiday schedule, where you and your family feel stress, anxiety, overwhelm, doubt, resentment, even depression... give yourself (and family) permission to s l o w d o w n.

There are no awards or trophies given out for the most gifts wrapped, most perfect bows, perfect decor, best cookies, most miles travelled. No medals for most blown budget, most giant tree, best photos taken, moat parties attended. In the middle of the season, promise yourself that you will mind your mental health, amd make merry in a way that fits YOU and YOUR family. Not what anyone else says or expects you to do. Do the things and events which bring your people the most memories and joy. Don't get lost in comparing someone elses perfect-looking display of holiday cheer, and think yours isn't any less. How you and your family choose to celebrate Chriatmas (or Kwanzaa, Diwali, Chinese New Year, New Year, Hanukkah, and every other merry bustling winter holiday I forgot about b/c I'm wasted on brown butter chocolate chip cookies), is entirely up to you.

23° this morning, 6:34am at the bus stop with Lilly, with some snow falling. So cloudy, so grey. I love walking to the stop in the mornings, no matter the weather. It gets us rockin' and rollin' with fresh air in our lungs... and numb faces.

The kids are all getting out of school early today, since we've got some snow on the way. Here, we'll either get snow or nothing. I'm counting on nothing, but our fuzzy socks are ready just in case!

I am thoroughly enjoying winter thus far. Usually, I'm a Winter Hater. Finding gratefulness in these early bus stop walks has heen so important to my surviving cold & grey days so far. Instead of complaining and wishing winter away, I am trying to embrace the gorgeousness of winter instead. I do miss the sunshining and not wearing boots, but so far, I'm embracing the season.
